PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Authorities are searching for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash Monday morning near southeast Tacoma that claimed the life of a 51-year-old cyclist, reports KOMO News.
The fatal incident occurred in the 11000 block of Waller Road East, in an area south of the State Route 512 overpass. Dispatchers received the call at about 7:50 a.m.
An investigation remains ongoing, but detectives say the bicyclist appears to have been intentionally struck by a vehicle, believed to be a 2006 gold Chevy Tahoe. Its driver then fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Pierce County deputies continue to investigate and search for the suspect and fleeing Chevy Tahoe, which is said to have sustained front-end damage from the hit-and-run.
Anyone who lives or works in the area is urged to review surveillance footage for any sign of the vehicle, which would have passed the area sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 8:10 a.m.
