SEATTLE, WA — Authorities were called to a wreck Monday morning that closed multiple lanes on Interstate 5 in Seattle’s University District, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The accident happened on the northbound lanes of I-5, just south of Northeast 50th Street. It was first reported by WSDOT at 8:35 a.m.
While the cause of the crash was not immediately disclosed, the two left lanes and the right lane were blocked in the immediate aftermath.
By 8:47 a.m., the three left lanes were reported closed, and the Washington State Patrol and WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT) had arrived on the scene. At that time, a three-mile traffic backup had formed in the area. Motorists were advised to seek alternate paths.
UPDATE 2: The collision on NB I-5 just south of NE 50th St in Seattle is now blocking the 3 left lanes. Fire, Incident Response and State Patrol are on scene.

Though only two left lanes remained closed at 9:24 a.m., the backup had stretched out four miles long, and the closure would remain in place until 11:25 a.m., when officials announced the scene cleared.

As of this writing, authorities have not confirmed any serious injuries in connection to the accident.
