KING COUNTY, WA — A vehicle accident Monday afternoon closed as many as three lanes on Interstate 405 in northeast Kirkland, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The wreck took place on the northbound lanes of I-405 at Exit 20A to Northeast 116th Street, near the city’s Totem Lake area. It was first reported by WSDOT at 3:05 p.m.
Authorities have not specified the cause of the crash, but the left lane was blocked in the immediate aftermath. By 3:15 p.m., three center lanes were blocked as local firefighters and WSDOT’s Incident Response Team arrived at the scene.
Motorists were warned of long delays in the area.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., only the right lane was reported closed, but a three-mile backup had already formed around the scene.
Update: This collision is now only blocking the right lane on I-405 northbound at NE 116th St in Kirkland.
