KING COUNTY, WA — Two separate but back-to-back crashes early Saturday in Renton claimed the lives of five people and left one person in critical condition, reports FOX 13 Seattle.
Renton Police were called to the scene of the first wreck in the area of Petrovitsky Road and 126th Avenue Southeast, at about 12:30 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate a driver in a 2010 Mercedes was traveling down the road at a high rate of speed when they failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The Mercedes hit a curb and then went airborne into a tree before catching fire.
Authorities pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.
At around 1:15 a.m. officers responded to a crash near Third and Rainier Avenue, where a 2004 Toyota Camry had become torn into two after colliding with a tree. Several passengers were ejected from the vehicle, which caught fire near its front end.
Four people succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash. A fifth person was rushed to an area hospital with critical injuries.
At this time, the Renton Police Department has not released any identifying details.
Investigations into both accidents remain ongoing.
