PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A rollover collision early Thursday evening blocked two lanes on Interstate 5 near southwest Lakewood, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The accident impacted the southbound lanes of I-5 near Exit 122 to Berkeley Street Southwest, just north of the main gate to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It was first reported by WSDOT at about 5:11 p.m.
It was unclear what led up to the crash, but at least one vehicle overturned. Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the scene, where the HOV and left lanes were closed to traffic, creating a multi-mile long traffic backup.

By 7:39 p.m., more than two hours after the initial report, crews had cleared the scene from the roadway and all lanes were reopened to the public.
