SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A man was hospitalized with serious injuries Wednesday evening after being struck by a train in Marysville, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

Authorities said the incident occurred at the State Avenue and Grove Street (72nd Street Northeast) crossing. Marysville Police and Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Neither agency has indicated the circumstances of the event, but police officers applied a tourniquet to the male pedestrian as they waited for firefighters to arrive.

The victim, who suffered significant injures to his lower body, was rushed to an area hospital.

Authorities had the railroad intersections at 1st Street, Fourth Street, 8th Street, and Grove Street (72nd Street NE) shut down during the emergency response and initial investigation. About an hour later, all intersections were reopened.
