JEFFERSON COUNTY, WA — Two people, including a nine-year-old child, died last Friday afternoon after a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 101 near Sequim, reports King 5.

The Washington State Patrol said the fatal crash occurred on a span of US-101 near Old Gardiner Road on July 7. It was first reported by King 5 at 6:56 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a driver in a southbound vehicle crossed the center line to avoid traffic slowing ahead. Moments later, the southbound vehicle collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

The driver and juvenile passenger in the southbound vehicle were both pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed the WSP.

Authorities did not say whether anyone in the northbound vehicle was seriously hurt.
