KING COUNTY, WA — A 19-year-old man has been arrested following a hit-and-run pedestrian crash that claimed the life of a child in northeast Kent, according to KOMO News.
The fatal incident occurred in the area of 132nd Avenue Southeast and Southeast 230th Street, at about 7:00 p.m.
While the circumstances of the event remain unclear, Kent Police Department officials believe the young man was intoxicated when he struck the child with his vehicle.
The child, believed to be around age 12, suffered serious injuries. Despite CPR and life-saving efforts from other pedestrians, officers who responded two minutes after the call, and medical personnel, the child was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The driver, who fled the scene after the crash, was found a short distance from the scene. The DUI suspect was taken into custody for an investigation into vehicular homicide.
