TACOMA, WA — Eight people were hurt, four critically early Sunday morning due to a head-on collision in northeast Tacoma, according to KOMO News.

The Tacoma Police Department said the wreck occurred in the 5600 block of Marine View Drive. Officers and members of the Tacoma Fire Department responded to the scene at around 1:30 a.m.

A witness told the TPD that one car appeared to have been racing another on the curvy road, at rates of speed above the posted speed limit. At one point, one of the cars collided head-on with a third, uninvolved vehicle.

Eight people were transported to area hospitals for a range of injuries. Authorities said at least four people suffered serious injuries, with one patient listed in life-threatening condition.

Authorities are continuing to search for the driver of the second racing car, which left the scene after the crash. An investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been reported at this time.
