KING COUNTY, WA — Three people died early Sunday after their car collided with a box truck parked along Interstate 5 in Federal Way, reports FOX 13 Seattle.
The fatal accident took place on the northbound side of I-5 near South 336th Street, at about 3:50 a.m.
According to officials, a car was traveling northbound on I-5 when, for reasons still being investigated, it veered off the roadway and slammed into a box truck that was parked on the highway shoulder.
All occupants of the car, including the driver and two passengers, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
It was not immediately clear whether the box truck was occupied at the time, but no other major injuries have been reported.
The Washington State Department of Transportation warned commuters of a closure impacting two right lanes. By 8:00 a.m., about three hours later, the roadway was reopened to traffic.
An investigation by the Washington State Patrol was underway.
