SEATTLE, WA — Authorities were called to a collision Wednesday morning that caused a two-mile traffic backup on Interstate 5 in south Seattle, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The accident impacted the southbound lanes of I-5 at South Michigan Street (Exit 152), in the Georgetown area. It was first recorded by WSDOT at 8:45 a.m.
While the cause of the wreck has not been disclosed, the southbound HOV lane was blocked in the immediate aftermath. By 8:55 a.m., the Washington State Patrol and WSDOT’s Incident Response Team (IRT) had responded to the scene.

Morning commuters faced major delays, as a traffic backup about two miles along had formed by 9:20 a.m.

Shortly after 9:41 p.m., crews had cleared the scene from the roadway and all lanes were reported reopened.
