THURSTON COUNTY, WA — One person died Friday morning after a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 5 near northeast Olympia, according to King 5.
The fatal collision occurred on the southbound lanes of I-5, just north of Southeast College Street. It was first reported by the Washington State Patrol at 5:21 a.m.
Officials say one person was driving southbound on the interstate when their vehicle entered a construction zone and collided with equipment stationed at the site.
It was unclear what circumstances led up to the incident, but a Public Information Officer said the WSP had received reports of an erratic driver shortly before.
A traffic backup over two miles long formed behind the crash scene during the response.
A full investigation remains ongoing.
