TACOMA, WA — One person was seriously hurt last Wednesday, June 21, due to a collision on Interstate 5 near downtown Tacoma, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Fire Assistance crews and the Washington State Patrol responded to the scene on the southbound lanes near Portland Avenue, in the McKinley area, at about 6:15 p.m.
It was unclear what led up to the wreck or how many vehicles were involved, but first responders rushed one patient to an area hospital with serious injuries.

All southbound lanes of I-5 were initially blocked off, but by 6:28 p.m., traffic was getting by through the HOV lane. Alternate routes were recommended, as major delays were expected in the area during the emergency response and investigation.
By 8:50 p.m., more than 2.5 hours after the initial report, crews had cleared the scene from the roadway and all lanes were reported reopened.
Authorities have not shared further details regarding the vehicles involved or any pending charges.
