SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — A man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a stolen vehicle hit a police vehicle and a sporting goods store during a theft in east Lynnwood, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

The events unfolded at the Dick’s Sporting Goods store at 19500 Alderwood Mall Parkway. Dispatchers first received the call at around 4:50 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a man exited the business with clothes and three pairs of shoes without paying for them. He then appeared to “hot-wire” a red Kia Optima, which was later found to have been stolen out of King County. A responding Lynnwood Police officer attempted to use his cruiser to block the stolen car from fleeing. However, the suspect used the stolen car to strike the patrol car multiple times, which, at one point, caused the Kia to hit the storefront.

The suspect eventually exited the Kia and fled on foot to the back of the business near Nordstrom Rack, but was apprehended by other officers.

Lynnwood Police said a loaded firearm was recovered from under the driver’s seat of the car.

The suspect is currently being investigated for “unlawful possession of a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and hit-and-run.”

No major injuries have been reported.
