PIERCE COUNTY, WA — An 18-year-old woman died early Thursday after her car overturned and struck a residence in southeast Spanaway, reports KOMO News.

The fatal accident happened in the 4600 block of 225th Street Court East, about a mile east of Bethel High School. It was first reported shortly after 2:00 a.m.

Details remain limited, but Pierce County Sheriff’s Department officials said the young woman appeared to have been driving at a high rate of speed when her vehicle rolled over and struck the home, causing damage to the structure near the roof. First responders arrived to find the vehicle at rest in the front yard of the home.

The teen driver succumbed to her injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

Her passenger, a 22-year-old man, was rushed to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition. No other injuries have been reported.

KOMO News reported that a tow truck was observed at the scene some time before 6:00 a.m. By 7:00 a.m., the vehicle had been removed from the home’s front yard.

Authorities continue to investigate the collision.
