KING COUNTY, WA — A man died Saturday when a shooting led to a crash on Maple Valley Highway near southeast Renton, according to the KIRO 7 Seattle.
The fatal incident occurred on a stretch of Maple Valley Highway northwest of Maple Valley.
Details remain limited, but a witness who was at a nearby bar at the time said he heard gunfire preceding the sound of a loud crash.
The vehicle’s male driver was pronounced deceased.
Photos taken at the scene show a white passenger car crashed into a utility pole, which caused a power outage in the area. Puget Sound Energy crew members were called to stabilize the struck pole.
It was unclear exactly when and where the shooting and crash occurred, but the King County Major Crimes unit responded to the scene to begin an investigation.
After a pause, city of Renton officials announced late Tuesday morning that the Renton Police Department was closing part of eastbound Maple Valley Highway to resume the investigation. The closure was expected to start at 1:00 p.m. and last 30 minutes. All eastbound drivers were asked to divert onto 154th Place Southeast/152nd Street Southeast, or through the parking lot of a nearby gas station.
