KING COUNTY, WA — Authorities responded to a crash that caused a significant traffic backup Tuesday morning on Interstate 405 in north Renton, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The collision took place on the southbound lanes at Exit 7 to Northeast 44th Street, in the May Creek area. It was first recorded by WSDOT at 10:17 a.m.
While the cause of the accident was not immediately clear, all three southbound lanes were blocked, forcing traffic to get by through the right shoulder.
At the time of the initial report, both directions of I-405 from I-90 to State Route 167 were experiencing major traffic backups. A prior lane blockage on the northbound side caused extra delays. By 10:37 a.m., the backup had extended into Bellevue, beyond the I-90 interchange.
All three lanes of SB I-405 at the NE 44th St ramp are blocked because of a collision. Traffic is moving by on the right shoulder.
