KING COUNTY, WA — A 40-year-old woman died Thursday night after an apparent pedestrian crash on Maple Valley Highway in east Renton, according to a press release from the Renton Police Department.

Renton Police initially responded to the scene in the 15200 block of the highway for a welfare check of a person in the right lane of the roadway.

At this time, the medical examiner is still working to confirm the woman’s cause of death, but a witness said they saw the victim laying in the roadway when she was hit by at least one vehicle. It remains unknown what circumstances led up to the reported pedestrian crash.

Renton Police said the incident is currently being investigated as a pedestrian fatality.

Anyone who may have witnessed the event while traveling through the intersection or area between 10:00 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. is asked to contact authorities at 911, using reference case #23-4482.
