KING COUNTY, WA — A KCSO deputy was hospitalized Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle near Sunset Park in SeaTac, according to KOMO News.

According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. in the area of South 144th Street and Des Moines Memorial Drive South.

Authorities said the events unfolded when deputies observed a “suspicious vehicle” and tried to communicate with a man and a woman who were inside. Though no traffic stop was being conducted, the vehicle was stopped in the roadway, and the driver did not immediately respond.

At one point, the vehicle began to “break free,” striking the deputy in the process. The pickup initially fled westbound on South 144th Street but then reversed course and went eastbound. After the vehicle was stopped by a maneuver conducted by other deputies, the male suspect attempted to flee on foot. He was later apprehended and arrested.

KCSO officials said the struck deputy was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported, but one Burien Police Department vehicle was hit and damaged during the short pursuit.

The female suspect, who was also taken into custody following the incident, was said to be cooperating with investigators.

At least a dozen patrol vehicles from local agencies were seen responded to the intersection at about 6:30 a.m.
