SEATTLE, WA — Authorities responded to a wreck Thursday afternoon that closed two left lanes on Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The accident occurred on the northbound interstate at Seneca Street, near the Central Business District. It was first recorded by WSDOT at 1:50 p.m.
While the cause of the crash was not immediately clear, the two-lane closure was expected to cause major delays through the downtown area. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes.
By 2:47 p.m., nearly an hour later, the HOV lane remained blocked, and a heavy traffic backup had built up on northbound I-5.
UPDATE: This collision on I-5 northbound at Seneca St in #Seattle is still blocking the HOV lane.
