SEATTLE, WA — A vehicle wreck Thursday afternoon blocked two lanes on Interstate 5 in south Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the scene on the southbound lanes just south of South Albro Place, near King County International Airport, at about 1:57 p.m.
The circumstances behind the accident remain unclear, but the right center general purpose lane was closed, and the HOV lane was left partially blocked. Motorists were urged to use extra caution as they pass the scene.

By 2:22 p.m., a five-mile backup had formed in the area. At 3:08 p.m., more than 40 minutes later, crews had cleared the scene and all lanes were reopened.
