PIERCE COUNTY, WA — The Washington State Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle wreck Thursday morning on Interstate 5 in south Tacoma, reports FOX 13 Seattle.

The accident occurred on the onramp from South 56th Street to the northbound lanes of I-5, near milepost 130. Troopers arrived on the scene shortly after 8:00 a.m.

According to the WSP, four vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash. Authorities learned the driver of one vehicle did not properly defrost their windshield before getting on the roadway, which obstructed their vision. The at-fault driver was unable to see stopped traffic on the metered ramp and rear-ended another car, which ultimately impacted other vehicles.

Minor injuries were reported in the incident, but it was unclear whether anyone had to be taken to a hospital.

The accident left the onramp completely blocked, forcing motorists to find alternate routes.

The WSP did not disclose any information regarding charges or citations.
