KING COUNTY, WA — A 63-year-old Federal Way woman died late Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle at a bus stop in Kent, according to KOMO News.
Kent Police Department officers were called to the scene in the area of 4th Avenue Northwest and James Street at about 4:40 p.m.
Witnesses told authorities the woman was standing and waiting at the stop on the north side of James Street, west of 4th Avenue. At one point, a driver in a dark-colored sedan traveled off the roadway and onto the sidewalk, where it collided with a light pole and then hit the female pedestrian. The car fled the scene moments after.
Responding officers arrived to find the woman unconscious in the roadway and immediately began applying life-saving measures on the victim. First responders took over the emergency response shortly after, but the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.
At this time, an investigation and search for the fleeing driver remain ongoing. The Kent Police Department urges anyone with information to contact the tip line at (235) 856-5808.
