PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 22-year-old woman was taken into custody Tuesday evening after her vehicle hit and injured a teen bicyclist in Graham, according to KOMO News.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said the incident occurred on the 9200 block of 224th Street East at about 6:32 p.m.

Few details have been released, but authorities said the woman was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck a 17-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle. The female driver then fled the scene without stopping.

First responders transported the teen cyclist, who suffered serious injuries, to a local hospital. The sheriff’s department said the victim is expected to survive.

Working with the striking car’s front bumper and license plate, which had been left behind in the crash, deputies were able to drive to the home of the registered owner and identify the hit-and-run driver. She has since been booked into jail and faces a felony charge of hit-and-run.

An investigation remains in progress.
