News: DUI suspect arrested after vehicle crashes through Tacoma parade barricades

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 74-year-old was taken into custody late Sunday afternoon after crashing his vehicle through barricades at a local parade in south Tacoma, reports KOMO News.

The incident occurred in the area of South 54th Street and South Tacoma Way at about 4:38 p.m. Community members were able to block the striking car until Tacoma Police apprehended the driver at 4:42 p.m.

Few details have been shared at this time, but authorities said the male driver drove his vehicle through barricades set up for the city’s annual Santa Parade. The route of the parade had been outlined from South 47th Street and South Tacoma Way to South 56th Street and South Tacoma Way.

No injuries were reported in the event, but the driver was arrested for suspected DUI.
