SEATTLE, WA — Emergency crews responded to a multi-injury crash Monday morning involving two buses on Interstate 5 near Seattle’s South Lake Union area, reports KOMO News.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said the accident happened on the southbound lanes near Mercer Street shortly before 7:15 a.m.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the wreck, but the Washington State Patrol said Navy personnel were aboard the two buses at the time.

WSP troopers, as well as Seattle Fire Department and WSDOT crews, were on the scene where 18 patients received treatment and transported to area hospitals. At least 10 victims in their 20s and 30s were transported to Harborview Medical Center where they were all listed in satisfactory condition.

Two right southbound express lanes and the Stewart Street offramp were blocked in the immediate aftermath. By 10:35 a.m., the scene had been cleared and all lanes were reopened.

An investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing.
