News: Passenger dies after suspected DUI crash on 304th St E in Roy

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 48-year-old woman died early Saturday after a single-vehicle crash involving a DUI suspect in Roy, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

The fatal wreck occurred in the 1200 block of 304th Street East. Deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene shortly after 12:00 midnight.

A preliminary investigation by the PCSD indicates a 43-year-old woman was driving westbound when her vehicle traveled off the roadway. Moments later, it collided with two trees and then landed in a ditch on the road’s north side.

Deputies arrived to find the victim, who was a passenger, ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.

First responders worked to extricate the driver from the wreckage before transporting her to a local hospital. No updates on her condition have been shared, but authorities said she was placed under custody for vehicular homicide. Following her release from the hospital, she will be be taken to Pierce County Jail.
