WHATCOM COUNTY, WA — A 45-year-old Ferndale man died last Thursday, October 6, after a motorcycle crash involving a hit-and-run driver on Interstate 5 in Bellingham, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

The fatal accident occurred just south of Lakeway Drive, in the city’s York neighborhood. It was first reported shortly after 9:00 p.m.

An early investigation indicates the man was operating a motorcycle when it collided with a vehicle, causing him to be thrown from the bike. The other driver fled the scene, but a third driver stopped on the left shoulder to attend to the ejected rider. Officials said the stopped vehicle had its hazard lights activated when a fourth driver who was changing lanes struck the vehicle and ran over the rider.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Anyone who has any information on the crash or the fleeing driver is asked to contact the Washington State Patrol.
