News: Motorcyclist dies after crash with school bus in Graham

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Fife deputy city manager Russ Blount has been identified as the motorcyclist who died Thursday morning after a head-on crash with a school bus in Graham, reports The News Tribune.

The fatal accident happened in the area of Orting Kapowsin Highway and 240th Street East at about 6:25 a.m. A deputy with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene about ten minutes later.

According to the PCSD, the victim was operating a motorcycle northbound on the highway. A school bus was traveling southbound when its driver tried to turn left onto 240th Street East. Moments later, the motorcycle and the bus collided head-on.

The rider was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased, confirmed officials.

The bus driver suffered minor injuries from deployed airbags. No passengers were on the bus at the time and no other injuries were reported.

As of this writing, no charges or citations against the bus driver have been reported. An investigation remains ongoing.
