KITTITAS COUNTY, WA — A 66-year-old Covington man died Monday morning, moments before his vehicle crashed off Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass, reports iFiBERONE.

The Washington State Patrol said the incident occurred on the eastbound interstate at around 9:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving eastbound in lane three when he suffered a medical episode. As he became unresponsive behind the wheel, the vehicle drifted across lane four and traveled onto the left shoulder, where it hit the jersey barrier. Officials said the vehicle continued along the barrier for nearly 400 feet before it came to a stop on the shoulder.

Responding troopers said the victim was pronounced deceased at the site. Though the male driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, officials said his death was not found to be traffic-related.
