News: Lanes close after semi-truck strikes I-5 overpass in Lewis County

LEWIS COUNTY, WA — A big rig struck an Interstate 5 overpass Thursday morning, forcing all northbound lanes to shut down near Toledo, according to King 5.

The accident happened at Exit 60 to the State Route 506 interchange, in an area about 70 miles north of Portland.

Few details have been shared, but the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said a semi-truck that exceeds the bridge’s clearance of 14 feet, nine inches hit and damaged the structure while trying to pass under it.

No injuries have been reported, but WSDOT said debris was blocking both northbound lanes. Motorists were asked to divert off the interstate at the exit.

Officials noted the overpass was already under repairs due to a crash last year that damage the span of the bridge over the southbound interstate.

At this time, no charges or citations have been reported.
