News: Garbage truck overturns, shuts down SR-3 SB near Gorst

by | Sep 13, 2022 | Accidents in the News |

KITSAP COUNTY, WA — One person was injured Monday afternoon after a rollover crash involving a fully-loaded waste truck on State Highway 3 near Gorst, according to Kitsap Sun.

The accident took place on the southbound lanes near Windy Point, in an area south of Bremerton. It was first reported at 1:13 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a Waste Management truck experienced a tire failure while traveling southbound, causing the vehicle to overturn.

No other vehicles were involved, but the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. It was unclear whether they were taken to a hospital.

The wreck initially blocked just one traffic lane, but both lanes were closed as tow trucks responded to the site, causing major delays in the area.

Though the truck’s 60,000 to 80,000 pounds of garbage stayed intact after the wreck, crews had to clear the load’s leaking fluid and odor from the roadway.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., several hours later, the scene had been cleared and all lanes were reopened to traffic.
