TACOMA, WA — Three people were hospitalized Tuesday morning after an SUV struck a Pierce Transit bus in Tacoma’s Eastside neighborhood, reports The News Tribune.

The collision occurred at the intersection of South 38th Street and Pacific Avenue, shortly after 7:30 a.m.

According to the Tacoma Police Department, a man was driving an SUV eastbound on 38th Street. As he turned right onto the southbound lane of Pacific Avenue, the SUV collided with the back tire of the bus.

All three occupants in the SUV, including the male driver, a woman, and a child, were transported to a local hospital. Officials said the woman suffered a serious injury considered non-life-threatening, but it was unclear how the other two patients were impacted.

Of the 13 passengers riding the bus at the time of the wreck, a few people reported minor injuries.

An investigation remains ongoing, but Tacoma Police said the driver of the SUV was suspected of impairment.
