COWLITZ COUNTY, WA — Two people were hospitalized Wednesday night after a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 5 near Castle Rock, according to The Chronicle.

The Washington State Patrol were called to the scene on the southbound interstate north of the city, shortly after 10:15 p.m.

An early investigation shows a 25-year-old Olympia resident was driving a 2019 Kia Forte southbound when the car hit the front of a southbound 2021 Toyota Corolla. After the initial crash, the Kia traveled off the right side of the roadway and entered a tree line, where it struck a deer and a tree.

The driver of the Kia and his passenger, a 30-year-old Edgewood resident, suffered undisclosed injuries. They were transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center.

No injuries to the driver of the Corolla or its passenger were reported.

The WSP said both vehicles were totaled in the accident.

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains in progress, but impairment is suspected. No pending charges or citations have been reported at this time.
