KITSAP COUNTY, WA — A 39-year-old woman was seriously injured early Monday in a single-vehicle crash off State Route 308 near Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, according to Kitsap Sun.

Poulsbo Fire Department crews responded to the scene on the westbound lanes of SR-308 near the Trident Gate to the base. It was first reported by Kitsap Sun shortly before 1:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by the Washington State Patrol indicates the woman was driving westbound on the highway at a high rate of speed when she lost control. Moments later, she hit a traffic control trailer sign and a light post before the vehicle came to a stop up an embankment and onto a tree along the right shoulder.

Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the wreckage. The patient was almost flown to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center but was transported to Tacoma General Hospital instead due to a delay.

Officials noted the wreck occurred in a zone designated as federal government property.

An investigation was underway, but the WSP said drugs were recovered in the vehicle and the driver could face DUI charges.
