News: Driver knocks boat off I-5 after falling asleep in Fife

PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A male driver was cited Saturday after striking and knocking a boat off a moving trailer on Interstate 5 in Fife, reports KOMO News.

The incident occurred on the northbound lanes at 70th Avenue East at around 5:00 p.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel prior to hitting a trailer with a boat on it. The impact of the crash sent the boat off the roadway and into a nearby ditch.

No injuries to either party were reported, but the causing driver was issued a ticket for Negligent Driving in the second degree.

Two lanes were shut down in the area during the emergency response.
