THURSTON COUNTY, WA — A 43-year-old man died late Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a car on Interstate 5 near north Maytown, according to The Chronicle.
The fatal accident happened on the southbound lanes before mile marker 96, near the exit to Maytown Road Southwest. It was first reported at around 4:45 p.m.
An early investigation by the Washington State Patrol shows the man was riding a red 2021 Road Glide FLTRX motorcycle southbound in the far right lane when he tried to merge left into the center lane. Officials said he hit a silver Honda CR-V during the lane change.
Medics were transporting the rider, a Longview resident, to a hospital when he died of his injuries, confirmed the WSP. Authorities noted he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
No injuries to the other driver, a 46-year-old Auburn woman, were reported.
One lane on the southbound interstate was shut down for over three hours during the response and investigation.
At this time, no further information has been made available.
