News: DUI suspect charged after injury crash on I-5 in north Seattle

SEATTLE, WA — A 41-year-old Shelton man faces charges after a rollover wreck Monday morning that injured himself and two others on Interstate 5 in north Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision occurred on the northbound interstate at North 145th Street, near Jackson Park Golf Course in the city’s Pinehurst neighborhood. It was first reported shortly before 11:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man was driving a white 2001 Ford F-350 pickup truck northbound in the HOV lane at the same time a 2021 Kia Niro was northbound in lane 2. At one point, the Ford suddenly veered to the right, hitting the driver’s side of the Kia.

The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into the left-shoulder barrier, causing the Kia to roll and come to rest on the right shoulder while the Ford came to a stop in the HOV lane.

WSP said the driver of the Kia, an 71-year-old Federal Way woman, and her passenger, an 81-year-old Eatonville man, were both transported to Harborview Medical Center. The extent of their injuries remain unclear at this time, but both occupants were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford was also injured and taken to Northwest Hospital. He has since been charged with DUI, felony hit-and-run, and vehicular assault.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and had to be towed from the scene.
