PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 43-year-old man was suspected of DUI late Sunday night after causing a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near central Tacoma, reports The News Tribune.

The accident took place on the northbound interstate near the Delin Street overpass, at around 11:30 p.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the suspect, a Federal Way resident, was driving northbound when he hit another northbound vehicle.

Officials said the impact of that crash sent the second vehicle into a trooper’s vehicle, which had been parked on the left shoulder with its emergency lights on.

The WSP said the trooper, a 39-year-old Tacoma man, was taken to Allenmore Hospital for a precautionary evaluation.

No injuries to the causing driver or any of the five occupants in the second vehicle were reported.

All northbound lanes of I-5 were blocked for over three hours during the response and investigation.
