PIERCE COUNTY, WA — Two people were medically evaluated early Friday afternoon in Tacoma’s South End after a vehicle struck a tent with people inside, according to KIRO 7 News.
The Tacoma Police Department said officers responded to the scene in the 1800 block of South 82nd Street shortly before 12:16 p.m.
An early investigation shows a man was behind the wheel of a car when he veered off the roadway and struck a tent with multiple victims inside.
It was unclear many people were in the tent at the time of the crash, but medics evaluated two patients for injuries at the scene.
Police confirmed the male driver was taken into custody.
Motorists were asked to detour around the area as the department’s Collisions Investigations Team worked the site.
No further details have been made available at this time.
