PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 25-year-old Washington State Patrol trooper was injured early Sunday in a collision while responding to another crash scene near Lakewood, reports The News Tribune.
The wreck occurred on the eastbound side of State Route 512 at Steele Street, shortly after 3:15 a.m.
According to the WSP, the trooper had been dispatched to the intersection when he and an 18-year-old Bonney Lake woman each got out from their vehicles.
Moments later, an eastbound vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Tacoma man collided with the trooper’s vehicle, sending into the young woman’s car.
The trooper suffered a leg injury and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.
No injuries to the Tacoma man or the Bonney Lake woman were reported.
WSP said the striking driver was suspected of DUI, though no details regarding pending charges or citations have been reported at this time.
