PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 22-year-old man was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle wreck off State Route 507 near south Spanaway, reports The News Tribune.

The fatal accident occurred near the Y intersection with State Route 7 at around 12:37 a.m.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 22-year-old woman was driving southbound on SR-7 when she approached SR-507. Officials said she failed to negotiate the curve of the roadway and continued straight until the vehicle left the highway.

The vehicle traveled across SR-507 before it collided with a guardrail and rolled until it arrived at a stop just south of the roadway.

WSP said male victim, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver suffered undisclosed injuries and was transported to St. Joseph Medical Hospital. A news release from the WSP said she faces a charge of DUI vehicular homicide.

A section of the highway was closed for almost three hours during the emergency response and investigation.
