PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A man died early Tuesday morning after his motorcycle was struck by a car near northeast Milton, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.

Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the scene on State Route 161 (Meridian Avenue East) at 28th Avenue South (Emerald Street) shortly after 5:00 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the motorcyclist was traveling on a green light when he was hit by a male driver making an illegal left turn.

Officials confirmed the victim died from his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the striking car was found to have been intoxicated, but as of this writing, no updates regarding pending charges or citations have been released.

All traffic lanes were blocked immediately following the fatal crash, but one lane was later reopened and traffic began alternating for over four hours.

By 9:10 a.m., the roadway was reopened to normal traffic.
