KING COUNTY, WA — Property damage was reported Monday morning after a truck hauling an excavator struck an Interstate 405 overpass in Renton, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.
The incident took place on southbound interstate at Lind Avenue Southwest, shortly before 9:00 a.m.
Surveillance footage captured at the scene shows the moment a southbound truck with an attached excavator crashes into the bridge. As the truck continues driving through, a load of debris from the excavator falls onto the vehicle behind the truck.
Officials said despite considerable damage to the second vehicle, neither driver was reported injured.
A section of I-405 was closed as crews worked to clear the debris. However, the Lind Avenue Southwest overpass is expected to remain shut down for the next few days as engineers conducted inspections.
A preliminary inspection of the bridge shows at least three of its eight girders extensively damaged, and two other girders moderately damaged.
The WSP said the striking driver will be cited. Repairs to the structure are projected to cost tens of thousands of dollars.
