SKAGIT COUNTY, WA — A Bellingham woman was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday evening after a multi-vehicle collision that injured at least three others near Rhody Cafe in Bow, reports The Bellingham Herald.

The accident occurred at the corner of Chuckanut Drive and Bow Hill Road at around 6:09 p.m.

According to a press release by the Washington State Patrol, a gray 2011 BMW 535 was stopped at a stop sign on the eastbound side of Bow Hill Road while a green 2004 Chevrolet was stopped on the westbound side of the road before the intersection.

During this time, a 2021 Volvo XC40 was heading north up Chuckanut Drive when it failed to yield to the right of way and entered the intersection. Moments later, it was hit by the BMW, which sent it into the Chevrolet.

WSP said a 49-year-old female passenger in the Volvo suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

The driver and a passenger in the BMW, two Bellingham men aged 61 and 30 respectively, were both taken to Skagit Valley Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The driver of the Volvo, a 51-year-old Bellingham woman, was also taken to the hospital, while the driver of the Chevrolet, a 62-year-old Bow man, was said to have not sustained injuries requiring treatment.

Officials said all five occupants were found to have been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. “Failure to yield” was listed as the cause of the crash. Impairment is not believed to have been a factor.
