PIERCE COUNTY, WA — A 19-year-old man died early Sunday after a two-vehicle wreck near Tacoma Community College in the city’s West End, according to The News Tribune.

Firecrest Police Department said their officers first responded to the scene at South Mildred Street and South 19th Street shortly after 1:29 a.m.

A preliminary investigation found the teen was driving a Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed when he hit a Toyota Rav4 as both vehicles headed southbound on Mildred Street toward the intersection.

Authorities said the teen was trying to pass the other vehicle on the left when its driver turned left onto South 19th Street, resulting in a crash.

The teenager was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed Tacoma Police.

The other driver, a 57-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

No further information has been released at this time.
