SEATTLE, WA — A 30-year-old woman was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a Link light rail train in Seattle’s Rainier Valley neighborhood, reports KIRO 7 Seattle.

Seattle Fire crews responded to the scene in the 7100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, near South Othello Street. The incident was first reported by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) at 3:00 p.m.

The circumstances behind the crash remain unclear, but officials said firefighters had to extricate the victim, who had become trapped under the train.

The patient was then rushed to Harborview Medical Center. She was last listed in critical condition.

Authorities said one line of Link service had been interrupted, but normal operations have since resumed.

No further information has been made available at this time, but an investigation was in progress.
