News: One killed, one critically hurt when truck hits power pole on Mercer Island

KING COUNTY, WA — One person died Wednesday night after a single-vehicle accident that critically injured another on Mercer Island, according to KIRO 7 Seattle.

The fatal accident occurred in the 7000 block of North Mercer Way and was first reported by KIRO 7 at 11:13 p.m.

Officials learned two occupants, a man and a woman, had been traveling in the truck when it collided with a power pole.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other victim was transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where they were last listed in critical condition.

Puget Sound Energy crews were called to the scene to disconnect electricity lines during the emergency response. 48 residences were said to have experienced a power outage as a result of the crash.

Authorities later recover a gun in the impacted truck after witnesses said the heard apparent gunshot sounds at the time of the crash. No threats to the public were reported.

No other details have been made available at this time, but an investigation remains in progress.
