SEATTLE, WA — An off-duty Auburn officer was arrested Saturday night after fatally striking a pedestrian on a sidewalk in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood, reports King 5.

The incident took place near the intersection of 15th Avenue West and Gilman Drive West, shortly before 10:45 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows a 33-year-old man was speeding northbound on 15th Avenue West. At one point, he passed another car near the intersection and lost control. Moments later, his car veered onto the sidewalk and hit the pedestrian.

Seattle police said the causing driver stayed at the scene and was processed for DUI. He was then booked into King County Jail for an investigation into vehicular homicide.

On Monday, the Auburn Police Department confirmed the driver was an off-duty officer. He has since been placed on administrative leave as officials conduct an internal investigation.

No further information has been released at this time.
