SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA — One person died Wednesday after a crash involving a box truck and a construction attenuator truck on Interstate 5 near Arlington, reports KOMO News.

The Washington State Patrol said the fatal accident occurred on the southbound lanes near 228th Street, near milepost 210. It was first reported shortly before 10:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a road worker was arranging cones from the back of his truck when he was struck by a driver in a box truck. It was unclear whether the worker was inside his vehicle at the time or standing outside it.

One person was confirmed to have died as a result of their injuries, but authorities have not disclosed further details.

The construction worker was initially reported critically injured but he has since been listed in stable condition at a hospital.

A section of the southbound interstate was shut down for multiple hours following the crash but later reopened at 2:19 p.m.
